BUZZWORTHY NEWS

The Tennessee Titans made 7 picks in the NFL Draft that concluded this weekend. The picks include: JC Latham, OT (round 1), T’Vondre Sweat, DT (round 2), Cedric Gray, LB (round 4), Jarvis Brownlee Jr., CB (Round 5), Jha’Quan Jackson, WR (Round 6), James Williams, S (Round 7), and Jaylen Harrell, DE (Round 7). 5 of the 7 picks were spent on defensive players. First-year head coach Brian Callahan will lead the Titans this year as they look to bounce back from back-to-back losing seasons.

Jimmy Gentry and the “Lost Heroes” Memorial Statue was unveiled in Downtown Franklin this morning. The “Lost Heroes” Memorial honors the 3,500 Williamson County men who deployed from Franklin’s Five Points to combat in World War II, of which 600 were killed in action. Jimmy Gentry’s unit found and liberated the Dachau concentration camp on April 29, 1945. He made it home from the war, but his brother David did not. Gentry went on to become a legendary teacher, coach, and the patriarch of local treasure Gentry’s Farm.

The City of Franklin is set to install 34 automated license plate readers that were unanimously approved during the April 23rd Board of Mayor and Alderman (BOMA) Meeting. The Motorola Vigilant LF cameras will be installed on state Routes 96, 31, 431, and 248 as well as the intersection of I-65 and Galleria Boulevard. The cameras can automatically read license plates and notify law enforcement if a plate number is listed as being wanted by police. The City of Franklin previously had 7 mobile readers that got 140 hits on stolen vehicles or wanted individuals. The cameras come with a $233K price tag and are funded by a state Violent Crime Intervention Fund grant. The City of Brentwood purchased 20 of these cameras in 2023 through the same grant.
